Each question may be answered by only 3 students. 3. For Mick, what types of resources/suggestions would you recommend to him to access his support group at the church? Name 2 of them.

This is the conclusion of the FOTW audio series. Derek and LueAnn would like to thank the following faculty guest stars:

Brittany Stone – Michela

Anthony Zazzarino – George

  2. How might Adam, the peer specialist on the team, work with Mick that is different than how Derek or LueAnn work with him? 1. Talk about Derek’s approach to helping George with his complaints related to psychiatric medication side effects during the course of their meeting. What did he do well? What’s one thing Derek could have done better to resolve the situation in a way that would be agreeable to George?
  2. Lots of times people have trouble remembering the details of their medical appointments. What are two suggestions that Derek could make to George to better help him with attending to doctor appointments in the future, so that they won’t have to spend time reaching out after the appointment to get the information?
  3. How would you proceed with assisting Mick address his current problems regarding his complaint of chest pains?  How would you communicate with him to try to ascertain possible symptoms, as well as his concerns? Do you think he should communicate with his psychiatrist rather than, or in addition to, a medical doctor about this condition?
  4. How, if at all, would you involve Bianca in Mick’s treatment?  How might her issue with traditional forms of treatment affect Mick’s health, if at all? What would you suggest Bianca do about her own health and wellness? Explain.
  5. Why is it important to work closely with other staff members when it comes to locating and accessing community resources and linking folks to them?  Give your thoughts on Derek/Lue Ann’s working relationship and the way they make use of their team meetings.  How is something as concrete as community resource management related to the therapeutic relationship between staff and service recipients?

3. How would you help Bianca manage the correspondence she received from Medicare?  How might the type of Medicare she has be a factor in determining the amount she owes and the manner in which it could  be paid?  Are there other variables to consider (e.g. must she make an in-person appointment and where/with whom)?

4. Lue Ann states that Mick and Bianca appear to be happier following Bianca’s discharge from the hospital.  How might Lue Ann assess progress made or current needs in terms of both Bianca’s and Mick’s current functioning? What should she discuss with them, what types of questions might she ask, and what should she observe?

  3. Should either or both Bianca and Mick seek government assistance (from the federal or county entities) with food?  Does it matter whether they have applied in the past?  How should they apply / is there a way you could help them?  For how much assistance in terms of dollars might they be eligible to receive?
