Episode 9: Crisis Services

After reading this week’s posted content and listening to this week’s episode of the Fly on the Wall Project, carefully consider the following questions and choose one to answer in its entirety.

Note: Three possible questions this week instead of four, so each question may be answered by 4 students instead of the usual 3. It is your responsibility to check all posts and select a question which has not already been answered by 4 of your peers. Please include the number of the question you are answering in the subject line of your post so the rest of the class may easily identify which questions have been answered.

Remember, you must have reviewed the week’s content in order to adequately participate in the Discussion Forum. In your post, incorporate the content into your response where applicable, and consider the principles of the Community Support System (CSS) model (e.g. flexibility; special needs, such as jail diversion; accountability; coordination) and the functions of Case Management (i.e. assessment, planning, linking, monitoring, evaluating) when posting your response.

Your initial response is due by end of the day Saturday 11/26/16 (2 extra days to make post due to Holiday).

Comments to at least one of your classmates due by end of the day Monday 11/28/16 (One less response to classmates this week, one extra day to respond due to Holiday).

  1. How do you think Derek handled this crisis situation? Give two pieces of positive feedback and one piece of constructive feedback for Derek.
  2. What did you notice about the way Kate supported Derek as they discussed the crisis? What kind of support would you need if you were managing a similar crisis, in addition to the support that was provided to Derek?
  3. What can be expected to happen to Michela now that she is on her way to the psychiatric screening center? What type of medical clearance, if any, might be needed? Talk about the possible outcomes for her as a result of her suicidal ideation.
