After reading this week’s posted content and listening to this week’s episode of the Fly on the Wall Project, carefully consider the following questions and choose one to answer in its entirety.
Each question may be answered by only 3 students. It is your responsibility to check all posts and select a question which has not already been answered by 3 of your peers. Please include the number of the question you are answering in the subject line of your post so the rest of the class may easily identify which questions have been answered.

Remember, you must have reviewed the week’s content in order to adequately participate in the Discussion Forum. In your post, incorporate the content into your response where applicable, and consider the principles of the Community Support System (CSS) model (e.g. flexibility; special needs, such as jail diversion; accountability; coordination) and the functions of Case Management (i.e. assessment, planning, linking, monitoring, evaluating) when posting your response.

- Talk about Derek’s approach to helping George with his complaints related to psychiatric medication side effects during the course of their meeting. What did he do well? What’s one thing Derek could have done better to resolve the situation in a way that would be agreeable to George?
- Lots of times people have trouble remembering the details of their medical appointments. What are two suggestions that Derek could make to George to better help him with attending to doctor appointments in the future, so that they won’t have to spend time reaching out after the appointment to get the information?
- How would you proceed with assisting Mick address his current problems regarding his complaint of chest pains? How would you communicate with him to try to ascertain possible symptoms, as well as his concerns? Do you think he should communicate with his psychiatrist rather than, or in addition to, a medical doctor about this condition?
- How, if at all, would you involve Bianca in Mick’s treatment? How might her issue with traditional forms of treatment affect Mick’s health, if at all? What would you suggest Bianca do about her own health and wellness? Explain.
- Why is it important to work closely with other staff members when it comes to locating and accessing community resources and linking folks to them? Give your thoughts on Derek/Lue Ann’s working relationship and the way they make use of their team meetings. How is something as concrete as community resource management related to the therapeutic relationship between staff and service recipients?
